About the GMC Terrain

The most compact SUV manufactured by GMC, the GMC Terrain is a discreet vehicle that offers a surprisingly pleasing driving experience. Unveiled at the 2009 Detroit International Auto Show as a 2010 year model, the Terrain is actually a more advanced, more refined version of the Chevrolet Equinox with whom it shares platform and powertrains. More sophisticated than the latter and visually more athletic, the GMC Terrain tackles a heavily disputed segment largely dominated by Japanese and German rivals.

The Benefits

When they created the GMC Terrain, GMC designers made every effort to create a product that would be instantly recognizable. A compact and rugged SUV, the Terrain boasts an athletic design that perfectly blends muscle and refinement. From the front, the large GMC logo is affixed on the signature three-element grille, a wink to the powerful pickup trucks also offered by the American manufacturer. Viewed from the side, the widened wheel arches naturally draw attention and are paired with sleek oversized aluminum wheels, which come standard on all models. A great addition, the programmable power liftgate, available as an option, offers a premium access to the cargo compartment, all with the touch of a button. A versatile SUV with a rugged look, the GMC Terrain offers a choice of two powertrains, both providing different types of performance. Coming standard is the fuel-efficient,  2.4-liter, 4-cylinder engine that generates more than 180 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque. A gutsier option, the 3.6-liter V6 engine is a bit less frugal but offers stronger acceleration and better performance, thanks to its 300+ horsepower and 270+ lb-ft of torque. When equipped with this motor, the Terrain can haul up to 3,500 lb against 1,500 for the 4-cylinder. In both cases, a 6-speed automatic transmission comes standard and transmits power to the front wheels. However, an all-wheel drive system that naturally improves traction and control is also available with both engines.
